Alexin, sis and mom! They came for a visit this weekend.






Some really important monument in honor of Prince Albert and Princess Alexandra. No big deal!

The residential areas in Mumbles are really sweet. Narrow streets, little gardens - oh, I love it!!

Zelicious UK?!?!

There was an ad for deli for sale in Mumbles, so naturally I had to scope out the location for a possible Welsh franchise of Zelicious. It was listed for 25,000 pounds. Sounds like a pretty good deal.






Ok, so it's a bit small! No room for tables inside, probably no toilet, no free wall space for the wall of Z's. Things to consider...





But how cute is this?!?! They write the menu specials on the glass windows AND also have super cute chalkboard menus inside!!!








Here's a peek inside! Uh, might be a tight squeeze. But worth taking a look at. I can dream!!!

Mumbles

Ok, so this is Mumbles - a super cute little beach town about 5 miles from Swansea. As you can see the weather was amazing this day!






Don't let the blue sky fool you - it was actually quite cold. I don't think I've ever been to the beach in flip-flops AND a scarf and gloves.




DORKS!










I know I've said before that I may never want to leave Wales. Mumbles really made me feel that way!!! Mom and Dad, you are going to LOVE this town!!!

Fajita Night!

So, as you can imagine, I have been missing Mexican food like no other! So Monday night I made chicken fajitas for my flatmates!




I bought this fajita sauce from Tesco that was nice and spicy, and made some pico de gallo from scratch. Not to brag but it was unbelievable!! Plus, the cheese here is amazing! Like nothing I've ever tasted before!!




Marie, Amy and Alexin anxiously awaiting the feast! As you can see on their faces, they really wanted me to put the damn camera down so they could start eating!!






I think they were a hit!! We had enough for all seven of us!!

Another Trip!

Hey everyone! I have another trip that I wanted to let you all know about. November 1 - 5, I will be taking a trip to Philly to visit Chris for his cousin's wedding. Should be a very nice time, even though it is only for a long weekend. I've never been to Pennsylvania so I can mark another destination off on my map. And I can't wait to see Mr. Chris again! It has been way too long!

If any of you are in the PA area that weekend, maybe we can hook up! It's doubtful but I thought I'd throw that out there anyways. (I speaking primarily to you, Megan!!)

The Haircuts!!!!

One of the best things we decided to do in Bath was get haircuts!!








There are over 100 hair salons in Bath. We chose one called Yasmine. They had a student special for 28 pounds.

Here's a better shot of mine. I absolutely LOVE it! So easy to do and works well in the rain. Not too bad when it's wet.

Bath Trip IV

This one's for Dad! The Bath post office! There was a whole postal museum there, but Alexin and I never quite made it there. Maybe when Mom and Dad come!

There was a rugby game going on this day. Too bad we didn't plan to get tickets. We could hear the screaming from blocks away!

Bath Trip III

The Bath Abbey was huge and beautiful! It is actually an operating parish as well.








An amazing shot of the abbey - unfortunately you can't see the amazing stained glass in the windows. It is breathtaking!









This cute little street led us to some great sweet shops! Found a delicious fudge place, and there was this old-fashioned candy shop. Dad, you would've never left!!








So many of these huge trees grow in the middle of intersections. It was an overcast day and I just love the way the sunlight shines through.

Bath Trip II

There were so many really pretty gardens in Bath. We found this one right by a tennis court/mini golf place.









You can see the leaves are starting to fall and change colors.

This building was practically covered with this reddish ivy. So beautiful!!

Bath Trip I

Our trip to Bath started with a 2 1/2 hour bus ride that left the uni at 8:00am. That wouldn't have been too bad, but Alexin and I decided to stay out until 4:15am the night before...



Obviously a bit tired on the bus!








Just me in front of a really nice building! No idea what it is, but it looked important...








Alexin and Jane Austen - she's from Bath, apparently. This is the closest we got to doing anything "touristy." Spent the day walking through the city, taking pics, eating good food, - it was fabulous!!!

















This is the Royal Crescent - massive semi-circled building at the top of a hill in Bath. I think it's the oldest building in Bath, but like I said, we didn't go on the tour to find out.

Casino Royale

This club in town was hosting a dress-up party last Wednesday. The theme: Casino Royale! My flatmates and I all got nice and dressed up. Thanks to Amy for lending me this beautiful purple dress!!










Alexin and I must have had the same idea in mind. Our dresses were almost identical in color!





As usual, we started at Spoons and shared Cheeky V pitchers.




That's Amy - I did her make-up this night and was quite proud of my liquid eyeliner skills!
I did Marie's make-up too but went for more of a smoky-eye look. My flatmates are such good sports to let me play "dress-up" with them.


Overall, the night went fairly well. The club was PACKED so the dance floor got really, really sweaty! And the wait at the bar was about 20 minutes! But the music was good and it was really fun to get dressed up. I think we should do this once a month.

Upcoming Travels

Just wanted to give you all an update on how things are going. I know I have been really bad with my blog lately. I think I might be losing the tourist factor that makes me take pics of everything I see and everywhere I go. But I am heading out to do some touristy things soon, so I'm sure I'll have much more to share.

Tomorrow, 13 October, I am going to Bath in England. I hear it is beautiful there. We're taking a bus trip through the school and will have all day to spend wandering around, shopping, eating, going to the spas, who knows!

26-28 October - AMSTERDAM!!! I am really looking forward to this trip! Again, it is school sponsored, so we'll take a bus then a ferry late Thurs night/early Fri morning, then have 3 days in Amsterdam! It is a really good deal, too! Alexin is going, and so is my roommate Bea. I haven't had much time to get to know her, so I'm really looking forward to this weekend. I will take lots of photos on this trip, I am sure!!

School is going well. I really like my classes and am actually ahead in my reading. There's a first! The great thing about being here to study is that there are actually relatively few distractions. I only have 6 hours of lecture a week, so there is lots of time to read at home when no one else is here. It seems Thursday night is the mellow night, so last night I read half of Mrs. Dalloway and had a couple glasses of red wine. Can't beat that!

I'm Lovin' It!

The morning after the party with the Americans, Alexin, Sarah, and I needed some comfort food. We found sanctuary under the golden arches! How cute is this Happy Meal?!? Remember the boxes?!?

I'm such a dork, but I just thought this Welsh Happy Meal was soooo cute! Mind you, there was a little girl, at the table next to us, who kept giving me dirty looks and sticking her tongue out at me. Friendly!

Some non-alcoholic photos! ;-)

The beach by school. The tide goes out so far during the day. I've never seen anything like that before. I want to walk out there but I'm too scared the tide will come in too fast. And my roomie Amy went out there and nearly got her wellies stuck in the mud.



There are so many shells on the beach! I, of course, had to take some home with me. Funny story: Rhys saw the shells on our kitchen table and held it up to his ear so he could "hear the ocean." No ocean sound, just a pile of sand entering his ear canal. Note to self - rinse shells off when you get them home.


This is Primark - our mecca!! Inexpensive clothes and accessories. Kind of like an Old Navy but with housewares and shoes and bedding and all sorts of stuff! We kind of live there.



St. Mary's Church in the City Centre. It is a beautiful church - from the outside, anyway!








Our local strip mall - about 1 mile from the village. Super convenient for light shopping (i.e., beer, cough medicine, cupcakes). Only two bus stops from the village or a nice walk.
